Overview of NC State
Founded March 7, 1887, NC State was born out of the vision of The
Wataugans, a group of leaders dedicated to advancing the state's economic
development in agriculture and industry. Today, NC State is a university
of national significance, with programs highly regarded around the
world, promoting the growth and diversification of the State's economy
by educating its citizens, discovering new products and processes,
and improving communities and workplaces. NC State offers baccalaureate
degrees in 89 fields, master's degrees in 80 fields, and doctoral
degrees in 51 fields. With student enrollment in excess of 27,000,
NC State is the largest university in North Carolina. Full-time faculty
and staff total 7,345. NC State is a Research I university with sponsored
programs that cover more than 1,200 scientific, technological and
scholarly research endeavors. The institution is supported by an annual
budget in excess of $500 million. The university reaches more than
2.6 million citizens each year with services as varied as science
camps, the design of manufacturing processes, new techniques in agricultural
production, and environmental protection.
