Master of Science (MS) in Chemical Engineering

This program will allow individuals to earn an MS degree in ChE by taking 10 distance education courses (30 cr. Hrs.). Five of these courses are required core Chemical Engineering courses. The students can select the remaining courses from a range of specialty topics. At present, the department has identified 13 courses for initial offering through distance education. These courses include the 5 required Chemical Engineering courses as well as 8 electives spanning polymers, biotechnology, environmental science and electronic materials. Information on the course offerings are given below while course descriptions can be found under registration and records of the NCSU website.

1 Denotes a core MS CHE course.

With this schedule of courses, a student can take 5 core courses and 5 electives in as short a time as 5 semesters by taking two courses a semester (one core and one elective). Since only two of the core courses are sequential (CHE-715 and CHE-717), this gives the students considerable flexibility in designing his or her program.

Post-Baccalaureate Studies (PBS) Program

Individuals who are interested in taking a few courses without formally applying for the MS program may do so as a non-degree student through the PBS program. In this case, the student needs to register for individual courses through Engineering Online. However, it is strongly recommended that the student discuss the course with the instructor or the Director of Graduate Program prior to registering to ensure that they meet all perquisites. If a student while taking courses through the PBS program decides to pursue an MS degree, he or she can transfer up to 9 credit hours (3 courses) towards the degree program.
