Many faculty in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering participate actively in university research centers, institutes and laboratories.

Ruben Carbonell is also the director of the Kenan Institute and the Biomanufacturing, Training and Education Center (BTEC). Many faculty in the department are key participants with BTEC including Michael Flickinger and Henry Lamb.

Robert Kelly is the director of the NC State Biotechnology Program.

Wesley Henderson (through ILEET) and Peter Fedkiw work actively with ATEC to develop advanced batteries for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

Keith Gubbins and Carol Hall utilize the resources of the HPC and Keith Gubbins is a co-director of CHiPS. Keith Gubbins also helped to found the newly created Institute for Computational Science and Engineering for which Phillip Westmoreland is the director.

Greg Parsons has been instrumental in organizing NANO@NC STATE which brings together many of the department's and university's nanotechnology researchers.

Behnam Pourdeyhimi is the executive director of the Nonwovens Cooperative Research Center (NCRC) and Nonwovens Institute
