Thanks for visiting.

For ten weeks during the summer of 2007, selected undergraduate students from around the US will be engaged in one of the most exciting, rapidly developing areas of research – “Sustainability, Energy, and Engineering”, in one of the most active research centers in the country, the "Triangle" region of North Carolina. Faculty from Chemical Engineering, Wood and Paper Science, the college of Textiles, and Environmental Engineering, among others at North Carolina State University (NCSU), will mentor research projects in various research topics. Students in the program will interact with students and faculty in the Kenan Center for the Utilization of Carbon Dioxide in Manufacturing and the NSF Science and Technology Center (STC) for Environmentally Responsible Solvents and Processes, both located at NCSU.

While working with an outstanding group of research faculty, you'll be learning about engineering ethics and environmentally conscious manufacturing. You will have the opportunity to interact with researchers at both the Kenan CO2 Center and the Science and Technology Center. We'll arrange for you to visit local industry, and give you an inside look at the graduate school recruiting game. You also will have opportunities to meet other undergraduate researchers at the university.

All work and no play makes for a boring summer. Participants have plenty of time for forays into the Raleigh-Durham area, including Durham Bulls and Carolina Mudcats baseball, some of the finest beaches in the nation, gorgeous mountains and an outstanding music scene. Program picnics, receptions and lunches also give participants time to socialize with each other and get to know graduate students and faculty from NC State.

Go to the following link for a calendar of campus-based activities. The university site also provides information about campus-wide transportation, quick facts about the university, information about applying to the graduate school, and a summer calendar for all of the REU programs at NC State University.
