The last part of the 20th century and this early part of the 21st century have ushered in an amazing world of new technologies. For example, through DNA technology, we can clone, bioengineer foods and drugs, and often determine the guilt or innocence of individuals. We are able to alter our surroundings often to the detriment of both our biotic and abiotic community. With this knowledge come very difficult questions including our rights and our ethical and moral responsibilities as human beings. In order to make objective decisions regarding these topics, all of us must have equal access to information.
During the summer, some of these topics will be discussed. We will examine how under-represented groups fit into the equation, how natural recycling of resources has been effected, how to remain environmentally responsible and the role of the United States in distribution of genetically engineered foods to under-developed countries.
